Short reflections on the connection between Nature and Spirituality that can be used in our daily lives. |
a MONTH at a glance... |
2024 10-15, 6199 – THE LEAVES ARE FALLING – Now that the foliage is passing its peak, the leaves are falling from the trees and covering the ground. It is a “crunchy” time of year. October weather has many different moods. In life, our positive hearts can help us navigate through all the changes as we crunch the leaves. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-14, 6198 – A MOMENT OF ZEN - My son loves to visit the Mountain to experience a moment of Zen, and then he often posts a photo of the view. To me a moment of Zen is the opportunity to experience a relaxed state when the intuitive mind is active. My state of Zen is in Nature. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-13, 6197 – I CAN SEE THE ICE AGE – When my grandson was young, we took a fall walk to the Lupine Field and he pointed wide-eyed across the valley to snow-covered Mt. Washington and said, “I can see the ice age.” I saw it the other day and knew that winter is on its way. Life has many changes to it. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-12, 6196 - YOU NEVER KNOW – Recently I spotted a woodpecker on the old maple outside our window. I had never seen that variety in over fifty years of living here. I believe it is a red bellied woodpecker. Every day I set my intentions to discover life again as I never know what the next mystery might be. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-11, 6195 - TRANSPLANTING – I recently transplanted some wild asters from the Lupine Field to the Ormond Gardens at the Center. I thought of how this Nation has accepted millions of transplants over the years who have helped build it in many positive ways. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-10, 6194 - DAY BY DAY – The fall foliage colors are changing day by day here in the mountains, and it won’t be long before the leaves will be gone from the trees. It is often hard to achieve big goals in life because they seem so overwhelming. The secret is to create small day by day positive goals leading to a larger one.

2024 10-09, 6193 - THE LOVING SIDE OF NATURE – Besides a violent side with strong storms that reshape the landscape, Nature has a loving side like the small red heart-shaped leaf that caused me to pause and smile. That beautiful moment filled my heart with gratitude to share. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-08, 6192 - WAITING FOR A DELIVERY – As a joke, I placed an old mailbox near the Cabin, knowing the mail is not delivered there. I think of people that spend their time waiting for something they wanted to be manifested, often giving up before the delivery is made. The Source has its own delivery schedule. 2024 10-07, 6191 - SKELETONS IN THE WOODS – As Halloween approaches, the gremlins are making their presence known. I am now finding just “skin and bone” leaf skeletons in the woods. Nature is closing its growing season. Some people, like the leaves, seem to have lost their purpose. Fortunately, they can grow again in any season. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-06, 6190 - ANOTHER REASON TO CELEBRATE THE FALL – Another reason I celebrate the fall is the red berries on the holly-like winter bushes that brighten up the landscape. Actually, I look for something positive to celebrate every day of the year. My intention is to share that gratitude with others. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-05, 6189 – I WONDER – I must admit: I wonder a lot, especially about the yet unsolved mysteries of life; such as bigfoot, ghosts, spirits, and Nature’s grand design for life. I wondered, when I spotted a leaf that looked like it had an image of an upright figure, if it was impression of something more. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-04, 6188 – NATURE’S BIG SHOW – Many people consider Nature’s biggest show of the year to be fall foliage. Some people just like to watch shows while others like to be in them. I like to watch the colors of fall spread from my windows and by going for a walk in Nature. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-03, 6187 – TIME TO WEAR A HAT IN THE WOODS – I don’t know if you have ever been for a walk in the woods when the oak trees are releasing acorns, but they often sound like rocks being thrown. In life we often feel like we want to wear a hard hat to protect ourselves from negativity. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 10-02, 6186 – MY OCTOBER WORLD – I look forward to experiencing October from the bench at the top edge of the Lupine Field. People have told us for years it is one of the most special places they have ever visited. I believe each of us has a special place to visit in person or in our minds all year long. 2024 10-01, 6185 – THE FLOWERING SEASON CONTINUES – While most of the flowering plants are beginning to peter out from a productive summer, there are asters in the Lupine Field in full bloom. Our minds are now brimming with the flowering of new ideas and goals for the winter and the spring beyond. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-30, 6184 - A MATTER OF TIMING – We are approaching fall foliage season. It has been slowly developing over the past month, but in some places the landscape is still mostly green. Nature has its own time schedule as is true many times in life where changes may be rapid or seem like they take forever. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-29, 6183 - ALWAYS ROOM FOR MORE – We recently had some more flowers added to the Ormond Gardens. We knew they were coming and had planned a place for them. I am inspired by people who always have room on their busy plates to help others. They touch many lives with their unselfish acts of kindness. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-28, 6182 - A PLACE TO ESCAPE – I recently spotted a good-sized hole in a bank of dirt. I am not sure what animal made it or its purpose. Perhaps it was an escape tunnel or a den. I think of people and healthy places to escape for a few moments as I have on the Mountain. It could be a book, music or a visit to Nature. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-27, 6181 - PINS AND NEEDLES – With everything that is currently taking place in the world these days it seems as if everyone is sitting on pins and needles. It comes down to trusting in one’s Source to guide them for the best positive results as they take the next step down their soul’s path. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-26, 6180 - HUNKERED DOWN – The old wagon rests in the Orchard, hunkered down in just about the same place as we found it when we bought the land. The goal is to someday restore it. That may or may not happen. We all have projects that are hunkered down in our mind. They may or may not happen. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-25, 6179 - SUSTAINING LIFE IN THE FIELDS – I find the milkweeds a fascinating plant that helps sustain the life of butterflies in the fields on the mountainside. I think of people that help sustain acts of kindness from planting the seeds and watching others spread them as they help promote positivity. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-24, 6178 - ONE LEAF AT A TIME – Before the trees release most of their leaves, there is an opportunity to appreciate the artistic work of Nature in those that have found their way to earth. It is easy to miss individuals when they are in large groups unless we choose a single person to focus on. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-23, 6177 – AN EMPTY SHELL – I recently discovered a small eggshell on the trail. I was surprised to find it in September, rather than in the summer. It reminded me of people who look as if they had lost their inner spirit. A simple greeting or positive word to them may help them recapture what they have lost. 2024 09-22, 6176 – INSIDE LOOKING OUT – I sat in the unfinished cabin, looking out through the open door, at the fall foliage. I was reminded of people that spend most of their lives inside of themselves observing the world. I smiled and went outside through the open door to experience the beautiful weather. 2024 09-21, 6175 – TOO SMALL FOR HUMANS – The bright red miniature fruit on our crab apple tree is too small for humans, but the birds will feast on them even after they have begun to ferment. The result is tipsy birds. There is so much in nature that is a feast for our souls. All we need to do is take the time to digest them in our hearts. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-20, 6174 – ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE – The night was warm and clear as a small group of us gathered in the orchard for a full moon meditation and to witness an eclipse taking place at the same time. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Actually, when we are aware, we can have a once-in-a-lifetime experience every day. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-19, 6173 – IN A DROUGHT – We have had very little rain here in the mountains so far for the month. The little brook that has run all summer is now bone dry. People can find themselves in droughts where it seems as though they can’t make any progress in life. Setting positive intentions each day for the next opportunity can help the flow begin again. 2024 09-18, 6172 – MY MAGIC WORLD – I believe that everyone has a magic world, either a specific location or an image in their mind where they can visit and communicate with their Source, feel love and gratitude in their hearts, and set positive intentions that will manifest in time. 2024 09-17, 6171 – A TREE THAT CHANGED THE LANDSCAPE – The Center recently had a flowering crab apple tree donated to the Ormond Gardens. Its location has changed the garden landscape, expanding its beauty to another level. An act of kindness can literally change the landscape of peoples’ lives. 2024 09-16, 6170 – A FEW MOMENTS – I recently walked from the Orchard over to the Lupine Field and spent a few moments sitting on a bench taking in the surrounding beauty. I returned to my life in the valley grateful and knowing I had just experienced something special. A few positive moments a day can change us. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-15, 6169 – COLORFUL SEEDS – I do not usually think of lilies-of-the-valley having color other than green leaves this time of year, but they actually produce bright red seed pods. One of my great joys is discovering the unexpected in all aspects of life. Today I celebrate the beauty of these seeds. Click here for the audio podcast recording! |
2024 09-14, 6168 - THE PERFECT SNACK – I love to snack, but I have learned that there are snacks that are perfect for me and those that are not. The deer have found the perfect snack in Hosta plants at the Center. We share with them. Our minds also like to snack on thoughts. Some are healthy and some are not.
